Where are you originally from? When and why did you move to Reno?
I grew up in Pahrump, NV, a small town about an hour west of Las Vegas. I moved to Reno in fall of 2018 to pursue a degree in chemical engineering (ha!) at UNR which I discovered was not for me. I love the desert and have lots of Nevada pride!

Why did you want to become a civil engineer?
After realizing that I no longer wanted to do chemical engineering my first semester of college, I still wanted to use math and science in my career so I decided to look to other engineering disciplines. I went into the civil program at UNR because the idea of creating infrastructure for people to use felt gratifying for me and I enjoyed physics. Eventually I settled into the structural discipline within the program because building design was more interesting to me than the other disciplines.

How did you find out about ASCE? How has it affected your career?
I first got involved at the student chapter level my freshman year through the concrete canoe team. I spent three years as an officer and after graduation a friend told me about the YMF board that I am now a part of. It has gotten me lots of friends in the industry and kept me connected to lots of engineering events which has been so nice!
