Common FAQs
What is ymf
The Younger Members Forum (YMF) is comprised generally of civil engineers that have finished college and are 35 years old or younger. We are a group of like-minded young professionals drawn together by our backgrounds and empowering members to connect with their community through networking, career development, education seminars, outreach, social gatherings, and much more.
What can YMF do for me professionally?
As a member of ASCE YMF, you'll have the chance to connect with like-minded peers, attended specialized events, and access mentorship programs to accelerate your carrier growth. ASCE YMF provides a unique platform for networking, professional development, and community involvement specifically tailored to the needs and interest of early-career engineers.
What can YMF do for me personally?
This forum encourages community engagement though outreach and volunteering activities, allowing you to make a positive impact on your local community. You have the opportunity to not only make life long friends from your local chapter, but you can make more from other chapters as well.
How do I join YMF?
It is very easy to join YMF! You can attend our monthly board meetings which are the third Friday of every month. We are always looking to recruit talent into our board! You can find our upcoming meeting in our calendar.
Do I have to pay yearly dues to be in YMF?
We do not require you to pay dues to be apart of YMF. However it is recommended that you become an active member of the National ASCE Society and the Nevada Section-Truckee Meadows Branch which require annual membership dues. Being a member of ASCE allows you to attend ASCE conferences, discounted luncheons and offers many other benefits. Visit www.asce.org/membership/join for more details.

Presidents Message

Welcome to ASCE Truckee Meadows YMF!
My name is Karlie Del Santo, and I am the Truckee Meadows YMF president for the 2025-2026 fiscal year. A little about me, I work at Construction Materials Engineers (CME), a local materials testing and inspection firm. I am an Assistant Project Manager and Document Control specialist working in our Construction Administration division. I assist the construction managers in conducting and coordinating progress meetings, submittal reviews, and other coordination items on construction projects. Outside of work, I love to hang out with friends, travel, paddleboard, play pickleball and tennis, read, and playboard games/videogames.
I have been involved with ASCE since 2021, my sophomore year of college, where I was a part of the Concrete Canoe team and an officer of the UNR ASCE/AGC Board. I had the honor of being the UNR ASCE/AGC Student Chapter President in 2023, during our chapter’s 100th year anniversary, and was also heavily involved with hosting the regional conference in 2023. I became Secretary of the Truckee Meadows Younger Member Forum during the 2024-2025 year, and I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as this year’s president.

Being a part of ASCE has completely changed my life. I have met some of my closest friends through it and have been given amazing opportunities to further myself and my professional career, as well as connect with and help my community. ASCE is a great organization to get involved with, as it can help you grow a professional and personal network, teach you soft skills for the workplace, and help you personally grow as a young professional, leader, and person.

Similar to Reno, our group is “the-biggest-little” younger member forum around. We are smaller compared to other cities, but we have a large presence in our community and are making an impact. We love to take advantage of the beautiful nature in our area with our annual camping trip and ski retreat and are always up to going to a local brewery. Members of our group attend regional and national conferences to sharpen our skills and network with other young professionals, and our board organizes networking opportunities within our local engineering community. We do community service events multiple times a year and have a very close relationship with the University of Nevada, Reno Student Chapter. Our famous “Office Crawl” event for the students is always a hit, allowing students to tour local offices and network with professionals, and allowing companies to connect with students and get exposure. In February 2026, we will have the opportunity to co-host the Western Regional Younger Member Council (WRYMC) with the Sacramento YMF here in Reno. Our goals for this year are to increase our inter-organization collaboration with other younger professional groups (Such as APWA YP), increase and diversify our community service events, interact more with other ASCE YMF’s near us, increase K-12 outreach events, and host more fundraising events.

If you would like to get involved or have any questions, please feel free to reach out to me directly at [email protected]. We hope to see you at our next event!
